In The Mix
The interactive, instrumental, drinking system
This was one of the most interesting projects I have undertaken to date due, to the high level of social interaction required to reach a successful conclusion. There was a tight time constraint to progress from devising the concept to producing a working prototype in order to improve social interaction based on food and/or beverages within a banquet environment.
My final working prototype of the ‘In The Mix’ system consisted a series of pressure sensors attached to the base of the users glasses. These were linked to recorded sound tracks that added volume and complexity to the music. Each type of drink was associated with a different instrument and rhythm as well as volume control. The outcome was the more users drank the louder and more rhythmic their instrument output would became.
The test group was a selection of University students. When introduced to 'In The Mix' very quickly established considerable social interaction resulting in participants calling for each other to drink more or less of specific cocktails. This increased the volume or changed the musical output creating a new and improved bar experience.
